Checking the corners other guys cut, since 2021.
Earwigs come from the damp strip right against the foundation. These guides cover what is holding that moisture and how to remove it.
on this pest
Earwig, in short.
Earwigs are a nuisance rather than a threat, and treating indoors repeatedly misses where they are coming from. They live in the damp ground against a building, under mulch built up above the slab line, in leaf litter, and beneath anything left sitting flat on soil. After rain the numbers rise and they move inside at night.
The most useful changes are free, so that is what these guides concentrate on, along with which openings are actually worth closing.
Earwigs also carry a reputation entirely out of proportion to what they do. They do not crawl into ears, they do not bite in any meaningful sense, and they cause no structural damage whatsoever. What they do is arrive suddenly in numbers after rain, which is unsettling enough that people reach for indoor sprays when the answer is almost always outside, in the mulch and the leaf litter against the wall.
