Summer drought sends them indoors after moisture. They climb walls and enter through weep holes, attic vents and door gaps, then follow plumbing lines to bathrooms and end up trapped in the smooth tub. Indoor finds in July and August are the classic sign the perimeter needs sealing.

Store sprays rarely work on scorpions. They stand high off treated surfaces, their bodies resist contact insecticides, and they can go months without eating, so they simply wait out a treated area. Effective control removes their shelter, their prey and their entry routes, which is how we treat them.

Harborage and food. Rock landscaping borders, firewood stacks, railroad-tie beds and heavy ground cover give scorpions daytime shelter, and healthy cricket and roach populations feed them. Two identical houses can have completely different scorpion pressure based on what the yard offers.

Scorpion service is built into the $49 monthly quarterly plan, because treating the prey base is the heart of the treatment. Heavy harborage needing extra exclusion gets an added line item, written and approved first.

Because their exoskeleton fluoresces under ultraviolet, which turns a nearly invisible animal into an obvious one after dark. It is genuinely useful for establishing how many are on a property rather than guessing from the occasional sighting indoors, and a technician will often use one to map harborage before deciding where the work belongs. Counting them properly beats guessing from whatever turned up in a bathtub.

They do, and that catches households out. Rough brick, stone and stucco all give enough grip to reach a weep hole or a window frame well above ground level, so treating only the base of a wall leaves the upper routes open. Anything that can be reached and closed higher up gets attention for that reason. Weep holes and window frames well above the ground are genuine entrances.

Because irrigation drives them out of the ground they are sheltering in and toward the driest structure nearby. A yard watered heavily in the evening produces sightings the same night for exactly that reason, and adjusting the timing or the volume often reduces the number arriving at a threshold more than anything applied there would. Moving the watering to the morning is free and often enough alone.
