Night is when they feed. Daylight goes on being pressed into a joint or a void where nothing applied to a floor reaches them, and they come out once it is dark. It also means counting sightings tells you almost nothing about the size of the population, which is why the exterior carries most of the work on a Dallas property.

Painful rather than dangerous, for most healthy adults. The striped bark scorpion is the species here, and its sting compares to a wasp. Reactions differ though, and a sting to a small child or to anyone with known allergies is worth a call to a doctor. It is an argument for cutting the numbers down, not for alarm in the house.

Copper mesh packs the larger openings, silicone finishes the smaller ones, and screening goes over vents and weep holes so the wall still breathes. Anything short of that fails, because a scorpion fits through very little and will find whichever gap was left. Expanding foam on its own looks finished and does not survive an older Dallas summer outdoors.

A couple of weeks after the harborage is treated and the gaps are shut, in most cases. Expect a few noisier days first, as shelter gets abandoned and they move about looking for somewhere new. That is the treatment working. Still finding them inside a Dallas house a month later means a gap was missed, and going back is free.
