Checking the corners other guys cut, since 2021.
Ticks wait at the yard edge rather than in open lawn. These guides cover where that edge is and how to protect it.

Tick, in short.
Tick pressure concentrates in a narrow band, the transition between maintained lawn and whatever is left unmaintained beyond it. A broadcast treatment across grass largely misses that band, which is why properties get treated and still have a problem where the dog actually walks.
These guides cover identifying the common Texas species at each stage, since they change size and colour as they feed, and what keeping that boundary cut back does to the risk for pets and children.
The other thing worth knowing is that most tick advice online is written for the northeast, where Lyme disease dominates. North Texas has a different picture. Spotted fever and ehrlichiosis are the realistic concerns here, both uncommon, and Lyme is rare. That changes what is worth worrying about after a bite and what is not, which is why we would rather write our own material than repeat somebody else's region back at you.
