Although you can find bed bugs in walls and other furniture and items in your home, they are most commonly associated with mattresses. Identifying a bed bug infestation in your mattress is crucial for prompt action and preventing further spread.
One of the most common signs of a bed bug infestation is bites and skin reactions. Bed bug bites often appear as small, itchy red bumps in a cluster or a line on exposed skin. However, not everyone reacts to the bites, so this may not be a reliable indicator.
Another sign to look out for is blood stains. Look for small blood stains on your sheets, pillowcases, or mattresses. These stains may result from accidentally crushing a bed bug after feeding.
Dark spots and stains are also indicators of a bed bug infestation. Bed bugs leave dark fecal spots on your mattress, sheets, or furniture. These spots resemble tiny black dots or smears.
Live bugs or exoskeletons can also be found where bed bugs are present. Inspect your mattress seams, crevices, and corners for live bed bugs or their shed exoskeletons. Adult bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed and have a flat, oval shape.
